The first idea for this project The Improvement House was to make a connection between Brazil and Amsterdam for the celebration of 750 years of Amsterdam. The connection became known: the Brazilian wood, Pau Brasil, Caesalpinia Echinata, which was grated in the penitentiary the “Rasphouse” by inmates to obtain red dye for the textile industry.

Op maandag 7 oktober 2024 vindt in de sociëteit de officiële overhandiging plaats van de kunstwerken van de portretprijswinnaars 2023. Khairzul Ghani (2D) heeft geportretteerd sociologe, schrijfster Jolande Withuis. Bart Janssen (3D) heeft een beeldhouwwerk gemaakt van de dwarsfluitist en jazzmusicus Ronald Snijders.

The Buning Brongers Prize is a biennial Dutch art prize for young painters. It is the largest private art prize in the Netherlands and has been awarded to 162 artists since 1966. An exhibition will be organized for the winners at the award ceremony in Arti et Amicitiae and a catalog will be published.

Pulling Strings is an exhibition initially developed around the idea of the marionette. Throughout the month of July, a group of artists will collaboratively construct a world where non-human beings take over the space. With everything in motion and coming to life, the audience is invited to observe, interact, and play along. The artists will create distinct characters inspired by different life forms, which will come alive through the use of various materials and movements in an eclectic installation.
