Quartz! #3
IDAHOTIQZ and Arti et Amicitiae present a special new episode of Quartz on Feb 21st, as part of Amsterdam 750!
This time the program is filled with special guests: at the talk show table we welcome Gerrie van der Klei, who of course also performs, Max Put, and Molly Strychnine, for years an icon as live singing entertainer. Various artists will perform, and Martijn Akkerman, known from the TV program 'Between Art and Kitsch,' shares a special story with us about pearls through the ages. The thread this evening is emancipation within and with the LGBTQI+ community through dialogue and art, especially in the context of Amsterdam 750.
Arti et Amicitiae and IDAHOTIQZ
On May 17, the day homosexuality was removed as a disease in 1990, IDAHOT, the international day against homo and transphobia, was born. IDAHOTIQZ's mission is to artfully promote a sense of community by and with the Queer community. Since 2024, it has been organizing - together with Arti et Amicitiae - Quartz! A fusion of dinner, talk show, live entertainment and visual art. Serious and touching, fraternizing and festive moments alternate in an evening-long program in all the colors of the rainbow.
Program
The evening starts at 7 p.m. with a dinner. The first performances will already start during this dinner. Starting at 8 p.m., you will be taken through a dazzling fusion of a talk show and a musical and theatrical program. Your hosts of the evening, Don and Pia, will take you through fascinating conversations with their guests in their talk show. The program will continue to be lavishly framed by special artists.
Special guest: Gerrie van der Klei performed with the renowned Boy Edgar and his Big Band as a jazz singer all over the world, including at Carnegie Hall in New York. In the 1970s, she and her sister Dorine formed the duo the Sissies. played leading roles in musicals such as Foxtrot, De zoon Van Louis Davids, Ping Ping, Viktor/Viktoria, You're The Top, 42nd Street, Sonneveld, Nonsens, My Fair Lady, La Cage aux Folles and Annie. Other theatre successes: Alle Laatjes Open, Als Er Liefde Bestaat, The Nelson Revue in the Netherlands and Germany, Musical de Cursus and Purper since 1980. Gerrie also played several solo shows including On Transit, Oh, Lady Be Good and Playing with Clay.
Special guest: Martijn Akkerman is known from the TV programme 'Tussen Kunst en Kitsch' . The love of music and art was instilled in his childhood, as it were, with his mother's milk. In 1960, his father inherited jewellery, some of which came from his grandmother, the architect's wife. Among these was an oval brooch, set with diamonds, which his father called "my grandmother's diamond boat". From then on, he wanted to know why this brooch was called a boat. In fact, this is when an interest in the history of jewellery was born, and from then on he became increasingly - and eventually professionally - involved in the story behind jewellery. As a jewellery historian, he researches the history and development of jewellery in Europe from the early Renaissance until after World War II. And now, more than 50 years later, he still considers himself lucky to be able to turn his hobby into his profession, a profession that has actually always remained a hobby.
