Sweet Sixty – Dirk Jan Jager & Mariëtte Renssen
Dirk Jan Jager and Mariëtte Renssen are celebrating the fact that they are both turning sixty this year. And because they have been working together since the early 1990s -they shared a studio in a basement in Amsterdam East- they are doing so with an exhibition. Two artists with different backgrounds, temperaments and tastes. While Dirk Jan rocked, Mariëtte listened to opera, a nice blend. But they have more similarities than differences. What connects Dirk Jan Jager and Mariëtte Renssen is their love of looking, love of drawing and painting, and above all an investigation of reality as they experience it. From a quiet individuality, they each build an authentic oeuvre. In a time when images are generated at lightning speed by AI, they consciously choose the craft of painting and drawing, with paper, linen, attention and surrender. With head, heart and hand. Time for a party !
Time for a party ! The ‘Do-It-Yourself’ mentality that Jager and Renssen also put into practice with (group) exhibitions at home and abroad, will for the first time take shape in a joint painting !
