Artist Talk: Irina Birger & Peter Vink
Artist Talk: Irina Birger & Peter Vink
On Thursday May 22, we invite you to meet Peter Vink and Irina Birger, who can introduce the works in the exhibition Monuments of Memory and share insights into their practices. The artists are present between 20h and 22h. They are happy to talk to you about how this collaboration came to be. Many years ago, these two artists wanted to make this happen but never found a suitable space—until now.
This is their first duo show, but they have been following each other’s work processes for over 15 years. Peter Vink and Irina Birger have also exhibited together in group shows in China and England. This summer, the both of them will participate in Lumen, a major international group exhibition at Schloss Biesdorf in Berlin.
Since 1998 Birger has worked on charcoal drawings depicting everyday objects and technological devices—floppy disks, switches, data cables, hard drives—each dramatically isolated and magnified. A selection of these works are presented in this exhibition Monuments of Memory.
For this exhibition, Vink creates a site-specific artwork that responds to the context of the event. His work interacts with both the physical and conceptual elements of the Arti et Amicitiae building, establishing a dynamic dialogue with its surroundings. His artwork this time will playfully respond to his own tendency toward minimalism in the context of Arti et Amicitae’s surrounding environment.
You are very welcome to get to know more about Irina Birger’s and Peter Vink’s art practices. Both artists will be present. We hope to see you there!
