Whispering Skins
Performance platform FLAM invites the public to open up to whispering skins, movements, sounds and multifaceted thoughts that will activate the spaces of Arti et Amicitiae in this new edition of this live art manifestation. On Saturday, November 2, the final day of the festival, the program will take place as part of Museumnacht Amsterdam 2024. Originating from a 'féminin' queer lens, Whispering Skins addresses themes of neurodiversity, melancholy, transformation, the night, sounds and rituals that touch the skin.
The moment of this edition - autumn rather than summer - sets the mood. Yet FLAM aims to create a translucent fabric that shines warm light, creating space for reflection but also allowing for new movement, acknowledging the complexity of the moment yet encouraging encounters and exchanges through art.
More than just focusing on results, FLAM creates space for artists to experiment, transcend disciplinary frameworks and present work that emerges from artistic research. In addition to live performances, the program includes video installations and works where the audience can play an active role, such as the performative workshops.
The works are cross-disciplinary and embody different styles: from conceptual to theatrical, from movement to voice, from outspoken to understated. The audience shares physical space with performers resulting in a dynamic situation where the spectator does not merely observe but activates the artwork in the relationship between artist and audience. Space is therefore not fixed but in transformation and movement.
We also organize a conversation with the Kunstenbond about the situation in which art finds itself with this conservative government, such as the increase in VAT and possible new cuts in art and culture subsidies. Furthermore, during Museum Night there will be works where the audience can literally play an active role, such as Impro-Drag, Intercourse with Earth and several surprise acts.
