Djon Seedorf - NEW WALK
Djon Seedorf - NEW WALK
After a long career in education, Djon Seedorf went to Suriname in 2017. There he found an old inner voice. Art had always been important, but now he knew how to make it a collective enterprise of reciprocity: he picks up what the inner voice tells him - makes paintings - passes it on and gets something in return as inspiration.
JUST BACK FROM BALTIMORE (USA), where he exhibited his work as part of a cultural exchange program, entitled “WALK ON BY” led by Joy Davis (curator). He was enchanted by the collaboration with other artists and everyone's creativity and the open atmosphere that hung there. It felt like a safe place where you could be who you want to be, away from all the judgments in the real world. A NEW WALK IS BORN.
I could talk about it, sing or dance, I choose to paint. My images are meaningful links, like a chain, that set something in motion. They invite the viewer to give free rein to his imagination. He feels rich and grateful when he notices that the essence of his work is also felt by the viewer.
These paintings by Djon are ideal examples of ambiguity, like almost all of his work. The interpretation of the content and meaning of the image can go in all directions. "Who is he?" "Who is she?" "What is he/she thinking?" "What do I see?" Djon Seedorf plays with reality and investigates with his work how people experience it. The images show a certain situation, but do not necessarily show what really happened.
