Boekie Woekie & Friends | DRUKDRUKDRUK
The title DRUKDRUKDRUK refers not only to old printing plates, exhibited as autonomous art, but also to the never-ending activity with which Boekie Woekie makes artist books possible.
Boekie Woekie is an artists' collective and the driving force behind the iconic artist bookstore of the same name: a platform for independent publications. Run by Jan Voss, Henriëtte van Egten and Rúna Thorkelsdóttir, the shop has for decades acted as a living sculpture housing and distributing the work of hundreds of artists.
For the Boekie Woekie & Friends exhibition in 2024, Arti opened both all the upstairs rooms and the clubhouse-and still the house was too small. 55 befriended artists contributed. Now the hard core returns in a more intimate setting.
The young Icelandic artist Kristján Thorlacius Finnsson, a familiar face at both Boekie Woekie and Arti, comes fresh from Reykjavik to work within Arti's walls between 28 April and 2 May. During his project a-book-a-day in 2024, he produced books, in the broadest sense of the word, together with visitors for six weeks.
Eva Gonggrijp will also animate his work back into a music video, which will be beamed during the HOTCLUB finissage on Friday 2 May
* Possibly during the opening some more acts between and inside the sliding doors.
