HOME / agenda / Jan Willem Maris

Jan Willem Maris' work is always about space, whether it concerns paintings, photographs, spatial constructions or installations. Maris paints interior and exterior spatial compositions that are sometimes determined by painted light, and sometimes by his architectural insight and experience. Seemingly abstract compositions turn out to be spatial representations upon closer inspection. This often concerns personal spaces such as studios and living spaces, but also squares, which for him are the living rooms of the city, and landscape space. Maris' work is included in various collections, such as that of the Erasmus MC Rotterdam, the ABN-AMRO Art Collection and the Dutch Art Foundation.
