24 uur Centrum: tours and frottages
For “24 Hours Centrum”, we are opening the doors to anyone who would like to take a look at the national monument where we have been located since our founding in 1839. We organize guided tours every hour, from noon to 5 pm. In addition, Alex Fischer will exhibit his Frottages of Putdeksels. Visitors can visit on their own Registration is not necessary. Everyone is welcome!
For Amsterdam's 750th anniversary, Alex Fischer, in collaboration with the City of Amsterdam, has created a design for a special Putdeksel. On November 6, 2024, the first one was placed together with the alderman at Waterlooplein. Starting in 2025, this manhole cover will be distributed in an edition of 1,500 in Amsterdam. Over the past 25 years, Alex Fischer has created 500 frottages of manhole covers from 135 cities, 35 countries on 6 continents. His work shows the urban traces of our industrial environment and his growing collection reflects the diversity of time and culture.
At Arti et Amicitiae he is showing 20 selected Frottages 100 x 100 cm graphite on paper from 20 Cities. From his specially designed 750th anniversary Well Cover, visitors can make their own Frottages this day (from noon to 5 p.m.) at Arti.
