HOME / agenda / Lieve, mooie aarde - Erna van Sambeek

The map of Den Hoorn in Texel in a sand carpet, the Pacific Ocean in silk and glass beads, the Netherlands knitted in white fluff-wool. A land- or sea map or the globe an sich, mixed with an idea and specific material, can be the beginning of a work. Even in a recent commission for National Park Dwingelderveld in Drenthe, a tiny piece of the earth, translated into wool from Drentse heath sheep, is the starting point.

In ArtSpace I am showing some of these works. Works of sand, pottery, porcelain, wool and silk, in photographs and ‘live’. Very large and so small, that you can put it in your pocket like a found pebble. To remind you how beautiful and fragile the living earth is.
