Red Light Jazz: Vox Sturnus
On Sunday afternoon, 8 June, Vox Sturnus will perform as part of the Red Light Jazz Festival programme at Arti in two shifts between 14:00-14:40 and 15:20-16:00. Vox Sturnus is an adventurous and creative vocal ensemble of six women from different musical backgrounds (from the Stargaze Ensemble to the Edison-winning Odelion to the Metropole Orchestra), ages (between 29 and 53) and nationalities (NL, NO, DK, IS). There will be singing in five languages. All the musicians of Vox Sturnus sing, play instruments, compose and improvise. Half of the group is trained as singers, the other half as instrumentalists.
At a Vox Sturnus performance, you are immersed in a multifaceted timbre palette and the ensemble has an unpolished, authentic sound. During the performance, an exciting alchemy of vocal harmonies, subtle string arrangements and raw improvisation emerges, moving between genres such as jazz, folk, choral singing from northern regions and more experimental vocal music.
Debut EP: Traveling Light From June 2025, the all female ensemble Vox Sturnus will tour the country with their debut EP Traveling Light. The EP features self-written compositions in different languages, inspired by various female creators. For instance, poems by Tove Ditlefsen and Tjitske Jansen have been used, and one of the pieces is an ode to the Norwegian-French painter Anna-Eva Bergman.
