ART ON THE NOORD/ZUIDLIJN
Art historian Carolus van Doornen highlights art on the metro stations of the Noord/Zuidlijn during this lecture. Metro Line 52 is largely underground, nearly ten kilometres long and opened in 2018. The seven stations are enriched with eight monumental, contemporary artworks in a variety of techniques, created by contemporary Dutch and foreign artists. This lecture will cover imagery, symbolism, format, choice of materials and the artists. We will see how the artworks fit into their surroundings. Stations as museum rooms, with top art on location. Beautiful to drive by, interesting to contemplate! With a special focus on Rokin station, of course.
Practical note: The lecture is in Dutch. The drink is an initiative of art-loving member Marco van der Noordaa and is open to all members and their guests. Gather at the bar from 6pm. The lecture will take place in the upstairs room, starting at 18:30 and lasting one hour. A dining table will be reserved for 10 people for those who want to join the society for dinner afterwards.
This lecture will be followed by a summer break and then we will continue. Make a note in your diary:
