IN HET VOORBIJGAAN
Schilderijen in samenhang
Anneke Timmerman brings together a group of small oil paintings for this presentation. Each work stands on its own and has its own focus and charge, but within the space the paintings are placed in relation to one another. What emerges is a field of images in which shifts, proximity, and unexpected relationships play a role.
The work departs from the everyday: images that present themselves without imposing— a reflection of sunlight on a bathroom door, a fragment of a plastic stool, a peacock feather, a detail of a colorful fly curtain. Through framing and painterly attention, these fragments are detached from their context and intensified.
The paintings function as concentrated observations: moments in which looking briefly solidifies. In close proximity to one another, an additional layer of connections arises, without the individual works losing their autonomy. Meaning is not fixed, but shifts in the encounter between the works and the viewer’s gaze.
