Peter van Hugten – Tekeningen & Gouaches
Fifty years of drawing cannot be summed up in just a few words. Peter van Hugten’s work is a treasure trove of ideas, perspectives, reflections and protest. From illustrations for newspapers and magazines to book covers and autonomous work; from a solitary walker or a disarmingly nude young woman to exuberant crowds; from a few delicate lines to a radiant palette of colours: it is all there.
This exhibition seeks to reflect that versatility while also capturing some of the pleasure and humour that characterise his work. For its lightness should not be overlooked.
In a few words, then? Peter van Hugten himself believed that drawings should not be talked about too much. They should be seen. Come and see for yourself.
On 27 August at 5.00 pm, a festive tribute to the artist will take place, featuring a varied programme with musical interludes by DARA (jazz), Sax & Stem (classical) and Caroline in ’t Veld (accordion).
