ROBERT BROEKHUIS
Robert Broekhuis's work exists at the intersection of abstraction and figuration. It is an approach in which figurative elements are treated as though they were abstractions, inviting the viewer to look differently and discover the poetry of the image.
"It is essential for me to arrive at a visual meaning without logic or language. An artwork must have its own reality. My ideas are born through making and take shape through making. It is an interplay between mind and hands. The work emerges through playing with ambivalent, irrational and uncertain elements. But above all, my work is about colour." - Robert Broekhuis
In the exhibition, recent paintings from 2026 and drawings from the series Injury to Poetry are on view.
Opening Tuesday 15 September 17.00.
In the Art Space, the monograph ROBERT BROEKHUIS is also available, featuring work from the period 1980-2025. The publication presents a multifaceted oeuvre, including paintings, drawings, gouaches, scenographies and texts by Alex de Vries, Larissa Kikol and Robert Broekhuis himself.
