Blues Cocktail | MINNE de Groot
On view in ArtSpace: a selection of recent works by MINNE de Groot. Paintings (oil on canvas) form the core, complemented by drawings (mixed media, ink and charcoal). Together they create a range of emotional impressions, comparable to a cocktail: an intoxicating blend with notes of sweetness, acidity and bitterness.
Because let’s be honest, the world today hums the blues. Tension in the air, estrangement all around. Where to, and to what end? Yet a human is only human. Must eat, must fight; goes into hiding and still brings forth new life. A time of transformation. That bird turned upside down.
All of this is expressed through idiosyncratic use of colour, strong contrasts, figurative forms that slip beyond the line, and a bold painterly touch. Recognisably MINNE, yet always surprising. The present moment is palpable and at the same time adventurous in this exhibition.
