HOME / agenda / It’s a Bird. No, it’s a Swan. An attempt to capture Loes.

Eva van Ooijen moves her studio to the ArtSpace for an artist-in-residence. She investigates Loes, a forgotten artist, through maquettes of an exhibition that was never realized. How do you reconstruct a life when almost nothing has been recorded?

Loes symbolizes a large group of female artists who were never heard or seen in a male-dominated art world. Loes is not a definitive biographical portrait, but a speculative reconstruction. Van Ooijen works with photography, text, and archival material in an attempt to fill the gaps.

The residency marks a final step in this project, which will culminate in a book. She invites visitors to reflect on reconstruction, revaluation, and the power of storytelling.

An exhibition about who we remember, who we don’t—and how we deal with that.
