Jarik Jongman | All Will Be Explained
The recent works presented in Jarik Jongman’s concise exhibition engage with themes of transience, transformation, and horror vacui: the fear of emptiness, of existential meaninglessness, and ultimately of our own mortality.
Through religion or philosophy, human beings seek an escape from this existential anxiety, hoping that one day—perhaps only after life has ended—everything will become clear; that everything will be explained.
Burning recurs throughout these works as a symbol of transformation and renewal, as does the use of flowers, which allude to nature’s regenerative power.
Jongman’s paintings draw on his own photographs alongside images sourced from the internet and archival material from books and magazines. His practice moves between styles and techniques, both formally and thematically, driven by a continual urge to experiment and explore new approaches. Recurring themes include metaphysics, transience, history, and the human condition.
The artist will be present at the opening and on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., or by appointment via jarik@jarikjongman.com.
