Creative Grounds 2026: Tijmen IJsendijk

On the third weekend of September, the Amsterdam Museum is hosting the first edition of Creative Grounds. For three days, the center of Amsterdam will be entirely dedicated to craftsmanship—and Arti is no exception.

Goldsmith, woodworker, and artist Tijmen IJsendijk will display his work in the glass display case in the entrance to the club. On Sunday, September 20, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m., there will be an Artist Talk with Tijmen IJsendijk. Arti members are warmly invited to join us.

Artist Talk

How does a natural form gain meaning through craftsmanship and human hands? On Sunday, September 20, artist and goldsmith Tijmen IJsendijk (1993) will discuss his work and his contribution to Creative Grounds.

In his practice, Tijmen explores how material, history, and craftsmanship come together in contemporary objects. For Creative Grounds, he drew inspiration from the Baroque tradition of pearl jewelry. The irregular shape of the pearl serves as the starting point for a new piece of jewelry, through which he explores how a natural form acquires cultural and historical significance through human intervention. During the artist talk, Tijmen will discuss his creative process, his fascination with craftsmanship, and the history that underpins his work. The talk will be moderated by Roísín Douglas, creative producer at Creative Grounds.

More about Tijmen IJsendijk

Tijmen IJsendijk (1993) is a goldsmith, woodworker, and artist. In his work, he explores the significance of craftsmanship as a cultural practice in which materials, history, and craftsmanship converge in contemporary objects. After graduating from the Unstable Media program at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy (2023), IJsendijk developed his practice as a goldsmith, building on his background in woodworking and his training under master goldsmith Jan de Vries. Tijmen works from his studio in the Vrij Paleis.

For Creative Grounds, Tijmen draws inspiration from Baroque pearl jewelry. The irregular shapes of the pearl serve as the starting point for a new piece of jewelry, in which he explores how a natural, abstract form is imbued with meaning by humans. From Friday, September 18, through Sunday, September 20, his work will be on display in the wooden cabinet on the ground floor.
