Kleinkunst avond
Cabaret Evening at Arti
After two successful cabaret evenings, we welcome a third edition this December: an intimate night featuring new makers, sharp writing and musical cabaret. This time De Broers van Arkel and Mattijs Verhallen take the stage, with Violet Werner as host.
On 12 December, they present a full evening programme in the sociëteit, divided into two parts: a first set of about an hour, followed by a break and a second set of roughly thirty minutes. Before and after the performance there is time for a drink and conversation.
Whether you enjoy subtle humour, personal stories or surprising songs, this evening brings it all together in a warm, intimate setting.

De Broers van Arkel
Jeroen and Martijn van Arkel are brothers, theatre makers and finalists of the Amsterdams Kleinkunst Festival 2025. In their first full‑length performance Zeg maar u, they each search — in their own way — for adulthood, and for each other. The result is a dryly comic performance full of absurdity, small observations and unexpected poetry.
Press quotes:
“A well‑tuned comic duo […] whose theatrically crafted performance delivers the biggest laughs.” – Volkskrant
“The best jokes often lie in seemingly small things.” – NRC
“With charming performances and their seemingly modest demeanour, they win over the audience effortlessly.” – Jury report
Mattijs Verhallen
“The greatest musical genius of his generation.” “Best‑dressed man in the Benelux.”
“An absolute outlier in the world of cabaret.”
These titles have all been attributed to Mattijs Verhallen, though mostly by himself. Others simply agree that he writes particularly fine songs. After years of working on a wide range of theatrical projects, from performances with Lebbis to writing children’s songs, he will present a solo selection of his work at the piano. With appropriate modesty, as he remains a notably humble presence on stage.
*About the Arti Shuffle
The Arti Shuffle is a public programme at the artists’ association Arti et Amicitiae, bringing together visual art, performance, music, literature and film.
In collaboration with Arti members and external makers, each edition offers a surprising and multifaceted programme that creates new connections, attracts a wide audience and brings fresh energy to the sociëteit.
If you would like to have dinner before the event, please make a reservation via societeit@arti.nl or 020‑6232995.
