"As a visual artist and committed Arti member, I create work that is independent of everything and everyone. Art that is purely art. Anarchistic, poetic, sweet, idiosyncratic, whimsical. Art that can only be created by my hands and thoughts. Influences such as fantasy, humour, confusion, action, poetry and irony seep into the work. In addition to new ceramic sculptures, created in collaboration with ceramicist Annemiek Mulder, a pure gold canvas, something blue, a 100% Merino scarf and other items are on display...
Plus one or two or three brand new works of art by my guest, the artist Glenda Heyliger. Years ago, she participated in the “ArtiAruba” exhibition here at Arti. That exhibition was the result of an exchange project at her artists' initiative Sinfa, Sint Nicolaas Foundation for the Arts, in San Nicolas, Aruba. Glenda is ill and is now staying at the Daniel den Hoed guest family house for cancer patients at the ErasmusMC hospital. My good friend draws there and I would like to show that.
Two of my cat paintings are now on display in the clubhouse. Under the mantelpiece is this one:
‘Melancolia riding the Liver, with cat in copper’ The liver is the organ that in anthroposophy stands for Melancholy. I felt gloomy, perhaps even depressed. But after a visit to the doctor, who advised me to go home and paint instead of bothering her with my unclear stories, I painted myself sitting on an immense liver, with full courage to face the cheerfulness.
At the same time, a solo exhibition of my work will take place at Galerie Kapberg, Slotweg 17 Egmond a/d Hoef on 19, 20 and 21 December. The opening is on Sunday 21 December at 3 p.m. (doors open at 1 p.m.). An exhibition inspired by Empress Sisi's purchase of a painting, Egmond, where I now live and work 150 years later."
