Biografie Camiel Hamans (1948) studied Dutch literature and linguistics at Amsterdam University, where he also defended his PhD dissertation on morphological borderline cases. He taught at Amsterdam University, Leiden University, both in the Netherlands, and at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland. He also held management positions in journalism and classical music and was secretary general of the Dutch social democrats in the European parliament (Brussels/Strasbourg). He now holds the position of associate secretary-general of the Comité International Permanent des Linguistes, CIPL. He is also editor in chief of Articula, the magazine of Arti et Amicitiae
