Biografie It's all about rhythm, rhyme, order, nature and human interaction.

Astrid Moors studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Maastricht, pursued Philosophy at Utrecht University and MA at St. Joost in Breda. Since 2000 she has been working from her studio in Rotterdam.

My work is represented in private and corporate collections in the Netherlands and abroad. I develop autonomous projects and paintings as well as commissions, actively involving clients in a visual and conceptual process. In addition to exhibiting my own work, I regularly initiate and organise exhibitions and collaborations, often with a strong curatorial vision and a commitment to visibility and positioning of fellow artists.

In my work I move between painting, installation and digital media, but I always return to rhythm, order and repetition as guiding forces. At first glance my images may seem approachable, even serene, yet they carry a suggestive tension that can become disturbing. Landscapes bear traces of human interference, forests turn into attractions, trees appear as rest forms, as negative space shaped by absence. Beauty and unease exist side by side.
I am drawn to the way nature is appropriated, reshaped, and at times degraded. I translate this into layered visual forms, both in paint and in meaning. Silence around a house, people waiting on a bench, the rhythm of slats, tiles, tree trunks; these motifs shift between narrative and symbol. Colour is never neutral in my work, but charged, unsettling, and insistent. I am fascinated by pixels and halftone screens, and I regularly use them as a technique to capture an image, turning the slowness of magnified dots into something almost meditative when processed on a large scale.
My transdisciplinary approach combines painting, graphic arts and digital tools with the contemplative slowness of paint. By dissolving the boundaries between design and painting, I access a visual reservoir where cross-pollinations thrive. Videos, installations and paintings interconnect, each insisting on the autonomy of the artwork itself, while still engaging in dialogue across media. My practice is both poetic and critical, intimate and expansive, asking the viewer to attend to detail as well as consequence.
