Gesprek met professor Louise O Fresco over haar fascinatie voor Vavilov.

Louise is een bekende wetenschapper met uitgebreide internationale ervaring op het gebied van voeding en landbouw. Ze publiceerde een boek over het leven en werk van Vavilov, De plantenjager van Leningrad (in het Nederlands) en heeft bijna alle locaties bezocht waar Vavilov zijn monsters verzamelde. Ze speelde ook een belangrijke rol in de onderhandelingen voor het VN-verdrag over plantgenetische bronnen dat leidde tot de oprichting van de nu beroemde genenbank op Spitsbergen.

Discussion with Professor Louise O Fresco on her fascination with Vavilov.

Louise is a well known scientist with extensive international experience in the field of food and agriculture. She published a book on Vavilov’s life and work, The Plant Hunter of Leningrad (in Dutch) and has visited nearly all the locations where Vavilov collected his samples. She was also instrumental in the negotiations for the UN Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources that led to the establishment of the now famous gene bank at Svalbard.
